Dr. Bud Pierce is a pioneering figure in cancer care in the Willamette Valley. He is highly
regarded by patients and peers, known for his commitment to excellence, and driven by the
constant desire to learn more. He graduated with a Ph.D. in experimental pathology from UCLA
and also served as an active Marine Reservist during his six years of graduate school. Later in
life, having decided his political party had given up on Oregon, Dr. Pierce decided to run for
governor. He sought and won his party’s primary in a contested election and went on to give a
good challenge to an incumbent governor who had spent more than 25 years in politics. Dr.
Pierce is, and has been a member, and a leader, of numerous medical organizations including
the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American
Society of Hematology and others as well the League of Minority Voters.
