Oregon League of Minority Voters announces its 13th Annual Liberty and Hope Awards 2020 – sign up, learn, educate and support a minority’s right to vote!
Oregon’s League of Minority Voters is a 501c3 organization and our mission is to fight for the advancement of minority voters’ rights in the electoral process through education, empowerment, and legal action.
This is a virtual event and auction to award, recognize and hear from those in Oregon that are supporting minority youth.
Our theme this year is “Uniting America Across the Aisle in the Era of Pandemic and Racial Unrest: The Role of Minority Voters.” Your sponsorship will be a timely investment and a remarkable acknowledgement of our mission to advance racial inclusion and to promote opportunity, empowerment, and representation for all people. Much of the proceeds from this event will increase our capacity to fund our Speech and Leadership Program and sustain mentorship opportunities for students.
The award ceremony draws consistently from those who share the value of diversity and inclusion of all people in Oregon. Last year’s dinner attracted nearly 500 attendees that included elected officials and leaders in business and community. For their consistent commitment to the rights of all people, this year we are recognizing:
• Terry Porter, PSU coach and former Trail Blazer
• David Lucas, founder of the Maurice Lucas Foundation
• John Russell, founder of Russell Development Co.
• Rena Whittaker, author of Being Tribal
• Rukaiyah Adams, chief investment officer at Meyer Memorial Trust
• Skip Newberry, president and CEO of Technology Association of Oregon
• Tim Knopp, Oregon Senator
• K&L Gates Law Firm
• KATU News
The League of Minority Voters was founded by a multi-racial group of Oregonians who believe that what affects one community affects all of us, and that the challenges that impact minority voters must be met with consistent advocacy from all people of conscience. Since our inception in 2007, with the help of our fellow citizens, we have expanded this vision to North Carolina, Nevada, Colorado, Virginia, Washington and a national launch in Washington D.C. later this year. We need your support to continue to expand our capacity and meet our community obligation. Donations from this fundraiser will support several programs and initiatives, including our youth empowerment speech and debate program to help develop the voices of minority students.
